In an effort to help the students
learn about and attend to the process of creating a dramatic
production, Riverside faculty developed a program of Play Electives
and Play Week. All students choose from Set Design and Construction,
Costuming, Publicity, or Prop Electives as well as having a
role on or off stage during the performance. The Monday before
opening night begins Play Week, when there are no academic classes
and the whole school works together to coordinate and finalize
everything from set painting, radio advertisements, final rehearsals,
light cues, and more. By Friday night, the musical is ready
to open, and the students feel a true sense of ownership over
the production.
