Laurie Boswell would rather be in her math classroom than anywhere else.
Her squeals of delight when a student shares a particular insight are
audible throughout the house. Although she masters double duties, as both
our Head of School and our math teacher,
Laurie's passion for helping students to discover the beauty of numerical patterns and to improve their problem solving skills sets the tone for every class. She effectively integrates art, current events, and technology into her lessons, consistently helping students to make connections between their learning in class and its application to other topics. Laurie regularly asks students to discuss and explain their reasoning.
Laurie taught high school mathematics for 25 years before becoming a
Riverside parent and deciding to challenge herself as a teacher of younger
students. She has also been a trustee of The Riverside School. Laurie is a
nationally published author of McDougal Littell's grade 6-12 math textbooks
and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy
Studies. When she's not in her math classroom, Laurie is usually seeking
out Geocaches as she explores new places with her husband and two children.
