Summer Day Camp at Riverside
Registration deadline: May 26
Camps are for ages 7-14, they run Monday-Friday from 8:30-3:30, with a celebration of the week's efforts for families on Friday from 3:30-4:30.
Calligraphy with Lauren Ruffner
Participants will embrace their individuality, enjoy the freedom to create their own style of writing, and explore the artistry of fonts. During the week they will practice writing in a number of different fonts, create their own, and prepare pieces of work to display their newfound skills. Younger students will learn about the parts of a calligraphy pen and three basic alphabets. Older students will also explore pen angle, additional fonts, and other flourishments.
Nature Art with Kate Renner
Participants will use the resources of the fields and forest that surround the Riverside campus to embark on a variety of art projects. Some days will be spent entirely outside, incorporating the natural elements of the landscape into our artwork. We might do plaster castings of found objects, large fiber sculptures on the trees in cedar circle, or a felting project that uses both wool and fibers collected from the fields. Themes explored during the week might include: the science of color and color theory; exploring movement and Newton's laws by making kinetic toys and sculptures; fiber arts like weaving, felting and sewing with found and recycled materials; and playing with our food-- using basic kitchen staples to make beautiful artwork.
International Cooking with Jill Nicol
Young chefs will creatively cultivate their interest in food, while also exploring cultures from around the globe. Throughout the week, participants will spend time preparing meals from different regions of the world and discovering those cultures as they experiment with new ingredients. Students will also learn about kitchen safety and a variety of cooking techniques. The week will culminate with an exhibition and celebration in which students will share their culinary creations.
Film Making with Daniel Fales
In this week-long film-making camp we will dive into making movies and videos ourselves. Join us as we learn the art of video production and film-making. Participants will be the directors, the lighting crew, the film crew, the acting talent, and the post-production crew. You will work in teams to take on projects that will allow you to practice and learn skills such as shot design, framing, camera movement, lighting, storytelling, editing, and post production.
Sign Language with Patrice McDonough
Signers will learn skills and information about the language used by the Deaf Community in the United States. Singing, signing and storytelling will all be part of the fun as participants will learn more than 500 ASL vocabulary words.
Painting with Barb Eidel
We will be mapping color with the color wheel to learn how to paint a landscape, a portrait, a still life, and an abstract painting. We will use different painting media: acrylic paint, watercolor and ink- for our explorations. Wood burning and using stains are also a possibility. So join us for a painting adventure!
