ART
The art curriculum at The Riverside School draws upon many sources including Vermont's Framework of Standards, Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE) and the National Standards, all excellent programs and recommendations.
Students will master the following:
1) Recognize, distinguish and appreciate art and cultural influences of differing global
cultures and historical periods.
2) Develop an awareness of and sensitivity to art in both natural and human-made environments.
3) Define, recognize and use the Elements and the Principles of Design.
4) Strengthen perceptual awareness and cognitive skills through sensory experiences.
5) Analyze, compare, interpret and evaluate art of self, other students and major artists.
6) Communicate feelings and ideas through creative visual media and techniques.
7) Develop skills in producing visual art in a wide variety of media and techniques.
8) Exhibit proficiency in terminology and techniques related to areas of art study.
9) Develop skills in the care and safe use of art supplies and equipment.
SPRING CELEBRATION is a celebration of what our students have learned in art and music classes. Much like the Winter Concert, students show off their efforts through musical performances. The best of student art is on display as well.
